- Working Group
From the nominations received from ECCO’s members, European academies of science and European oncology organisations, 114 highly-renowned scientists and clinicians from all areas of the cancer continuum were selected to be part of the Founding Group of the Academy. (To view the Fellows of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences, please see the Directory).
The Founding Group is responsible for defining the overall objectives of the Academy, addressing issues such as credibility of the institution, membership and governance.
Since 2009, two rounds of elections have been carried out, and the Academy now boasts 164 Fellows from 20 countries. Elections are undertaken on an annual basis, usually in the early summer. The Governing Body is committed to ensuring that the Academy represents the whole spectrum of oncology disciplines, and that there is no geographical or gender bias.
To steer the activities of the Academy, a ‘Governing Body’ consisting of a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary-General and five fellows representing all disciplines Europe-wide, has been established.
To address issues as they arise, ad hoc taskforces will be organised amongst members of the Academy, specific to their area of expertise.
The ‘Governing Body’ presently consists of:
President
Alexander M.M. Eggermont (NL)
Vice- President
Harald zur Hausen (DE)
Secretary-General
Ulrik Ringborg (SE)
Other Governing Body Members
Hans-Olov Adami (SE)
Maria Blasco (ES)
Adrian Harris (UK)
Pier Giuseppe Pelicci (IT)
Elisabeth de Vries (NL)
